Disclaimer
This is general information, not legal advice
Everything on Understand Trusts describes Minnesota law in general terms. None of it is advice about your situation. Trust and estate outcomes turn on specific facts — what you own, how each asset is titled, your marital history, who your beneficiaries are, and what you want to happen — and this site has no way to know any of them.
No attorney-client relationship
Reading this site, following a link from it, or acting on something you read here does not make you a client of Madgett Law, LLC and does not create an attorney-client relationship. Information you send after reading this site is not confidential or privileged unless and until a representation has actually been agreed to in writing.
Attorney advertising
Understand Trusts is published by Madgett Law, LLC. Under the rules governing Minnesota attorneys this site is attorney advertising. David J.S. Madgett is the attorney responsible for its content, Minnesota license #390494, IDS Center, 80 South 8th Street, Suite 1650, Minneapolis, MN 55402.
No outcome is promised
Nothing here predicts or guarantees a result. Descriptions of what a trust does are descriptions of the instrument, not assurances about what will happen in a particular estate.
The law changes and pages go stale
Every guide shows the date its sources were last checked. Statutes are amended, courts issue opinions, and a page that was accurate when written can become wrong without anything on it changing. Check the date, and confirm anything you intend to rely on against the current statute.
Links to other sites
Links to the Minnesota Office of the Revisor of Statutes, courts, and other primary sources are provided so you can read the law yourself. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for their content.
Jurisdiction
This site addresses Minnesota law. If your trust, your property, or you are somewhere else, different rules very likely apply.
